My dad and I went to Williams lake yesterday to have a great time and we did. I caught four nice size rainbows. The big surprise was that my dad used a 1/8 ounce crappie jig and he hooked a four pound 20.5 '' rainbow trout. We heard from another fishermen that WDFW and Williams lake are putting a chemical in the lake to kill all the fish because the blue gill and sunfish are getting out of control. This will happen September 1st.

I've never understood poisoning a lake, just makes more sense to me to remove the limit on sunfish and bluegill And encourage people to fish for them.

I'd heard that it's Badger Lake, that is being looked at for rotenone treatments. The spiny rays from Badger migrate (?) into Williams, also from what I'd heard. Great looking fish!

Nice fish! Good to know people are still catching trout with the heat we've been having.

Badger Lake and Williams Lake share a creek between the two. Yes, the spiny rays migrate. Both lakes will be treated in late October; not September 1 st. I attended the WDFW public meeting in Cheney. The pumpkinseed sunfish dominate the fish bio-mass to the tune of 90 some percent in both lakes. Most of the sunfish are barely above minnow dinks. The rehab for Badger Lake is long over due and sister lake Williams needs to be treated as well to do it right.

90% of the biomass? That's crazy. Did the trout appear to have been preying on any of them? Curious to know.

trout-killa, no mention by the WDFW fishery biologists of the trout having any real predator effect. One pumpkinseed sunfish female produces an unbelievable amount of eggs/fry; thus, the unreal biomass.
The meeting times are published in the newspaper and on the WDFW Website.
Randall Osbourne, WDFW Fishery Biologist is solicating comments or questions on the rehab of both lakes:

Both lakes need the rehab; especially Badger to rerun it to its past superb cutthroat and rainbow fisheries.
