Had a great day pike fishing with the Packernut and Ron on Cda today. Could not have asked for better weather. Intermittant sun and clouds, the wind behaved it's self and the pike were cooperative. (For some of us). We caught and released a total of 14 pike today with 5 being 30" or bigger. Water temps were 47-50 degrees throughout the day and fish were in and around the usual weeds. Best 2 fish came from a location I have fished before but have never boated a fish. Until today :) The fish weren't bunched up. We had to move around quite a bit and work for them. Best 2 fish were a 36" 12 pounder and a 39"er just under 16 pounds. Some of he mid 20" and low 30"s fish had real nice bellies on them. The bigger fish could use a little fattening up but it looks like that's happening now.
Bright colors worked best throwing glide baits, spinnerbaits, frogs and Xraps.
Thanks Mike and Ron for coming along. It's always nice to get out and fish with great guys.

Is CDA really that small that you need to block out your fishing spots? I love reading your reports but just seems kind of funny you feel the need
all of a sudden to start doing this. Good luck and thanks for the reports.

Cda is obviously not a small lake. However, I have been catching pike for close to 25 year, and nearly all of the locations I fish, I have had to find for myself. I have had very little input from others as to exactly where to fish.
The reason I block out the shoreline is because I have spent countless hours finding these locations, and there is nothing more frustrating than making a post online, then going back to a successfull spot, only to find 3 or 4 boats fishing there that you have never seen before. Believe me when I say that has happened more than once.
There are some very identifying landmarks in some of these locations that make them somewhat easy to pick out if someone wants to take a boat ride and search for them. I have shared some of these locations with several people from this website but posting a photo, posing with a fish in front of an easily identifiable landmark would be the same hanging a big red "X" on a tree saying "hey everybody fish right here". I guess I could take photos with nothing but the sky in the background but they don't look as good when I want to go back and look at them on my computer, or hanging in a frame on the wall.
I enjoy sharing fishing experiences, and techniques with people to help them learn to catch these fish. I mention particular baits, structure, shoreline types, water temperatures, and depths. I have received MANY emails from members of the website asking for tips and advice on how to locate and catch pike, and as I said, I really enjoy helping people learn this fishery. I believe part of the enjoyment and satisfaction of catching these fish is the fact that a person puts in the time and effort to find their own favorite spots to fish, then put fish in the boat while fishing them.
Most of the spots I fish are not secret. There are almost always other boats in the area. With the stand the Washington and Idaho fish and game departments, and the local tribes, are taking against the pike, places to catch them are dwindling by the day. The Pendorielle river was a great place to fish for pike. Now, you can hardly find a skinny little hammer handle up there. That means if people want to catch pike, most of them will go to Cda Lake. I just don't want to get there and find a ton of boats in my favorite spots.
If someone really wants to find the exact locations that I am fishing, I'm not hard to find. I'm usually the guy in the red and white Skeeter wearing a red jacket. The next person to come up to me on the water and ask me if I'm AJ's Dad, by far won't be the first. I have been asked that on the water several times, then have come back and seen that person fishing EXACTLY where they approached me. In fact, I had a boat with 4 fishermen approach me and tell me they came all the way from the Seattle area to try to catch pike on Cda because they read my posts on this website. I can't imagine how he found me on a lake that size. I pointed him down the weedline, said you're in the right location, and showed him exactly what lure I was using. On another occasion, a guy in a parking lot, in the dark, asked me if I was AJ"s Dad. He to was from Seattle. When I asked him how he knew who I was, he said "It's the red jacket man. It's a dead give away" It's not a big deal. I don't mind, and it's a free country. I'm just not going to advertise exact locations that I fish. I hope that explains it well enough. Thanks for the kind comments about my reports. I enjoy writing them, and if you see me on the water, stop and say hi. :)
