2/4/2016 7:27:00 AMThe launch is usable but not recommended for larger boats. I had no Issue with my 12ft boat. Also, the dock has been removed for winter so some boots may be necessary when launching.

2/4/2016 9:38:00 AMI tried it with my fly rod on Sunday. Not a bite. But I wasn't fishing long. Let me know if you ever want to go. I am always looking for fellow fly fishermen.

2/4/2016 8:06:00 PMI believe the dock was installed last summer. It was there the last time I visited the lake in October. It wasn't anything huge, but would definitely make launching larger boats easier.

2/5/2016 5:34:00 AMI believe many anglers confuse the privately owned/pay at the coffee can launch, just West of Sprague Lake Resort with the large WDFW public access and boat launch at the far Westend of the lake. I've talked to numerous anglers who confused the two or were totally unaware of the large WDFW Access' existence. A nice, new launch dock went in at the WDFW Access this past year.

I always launch there and assumed it was WDFW and never paid and nothing has happened. But if I am cheating an actual person instead of the WDFW then I would probably do different, but I couldn't tell if the pay station is even used or anything? It kind of looked abandoned. Any further info would be much appreciated.

2/5/2016 6:04:00 PMrwl, your confusion is common; the actual WDFW Public Access is several more miles past the private "pay at the can" access. Keep driving down the same road for several more miles until you see a PUBLIC FISHING sign. Prior to the sign, you will see WILDLIFE REFUGE signs on the right. Do the goggle search on the attached….

2/15/2016 8:21:00 PMImportant: YES everyone that I knows pays to launch on the private north east launch. They also pay to camp. If not, the owner says he will fence if off. It is not much money. Owner uses it to pick up and empty trash cans. Please pay when you use the site. Hate to loose it. Thanks

Thanks for your post and comments about the blood worms and leeches. Most interesting. I have seen that in the fall but not winter. Might explain why these fish do well through the winter. What I saw was worms 3/4", dark red and green. What did you see? How about the leeches...how large and what color. Sprague has always been a tough fly fishing lake. I'm still trying to figure it out. How can we have 500,000 fish planted over several years and we can't find them. Or maybe they are there and we just don't know how to catch them.?? Makes me crazy!!!

3/12/2016 8:41:00 PMWorms were all red. This means they are in the mud where the O2 levels are low, increasing their hemoglobin production and therefore turning them red. I'm a fresh Biology graduate so I apologize for the information diarrhea. The leeches were large, nearly three inches and black. I might try a black marabou jig next time.
