After last weekend I wanted to take one of the Sons fishing for the lunkers before they were spread out and harder to find. The ramp is totally changed from last week. with all the rain the lake has raised an 20 extra feet and water is over the launch. They moved boulders in front of the concrete ramp so you have a smaller lane of deeper water to launch from. Bring your waders and check it out before and you will be fine though.
Left the boat launch with the same Fly's with smile-blades in the front. Headed for the north end hugging the shore line as we did last week. Should have checked the leaders before putting in but no, simple mistake that we should have known better. Son hooked up almost at once with a big boy, and right at the boat, one more lunge back down and POP. all gone. Watched the fish swim away and all the beads and smile blade slowly fall to the bottom. Went back to the box and found a few Willow blades so put together another set up for both of us using them. Had to bump the speed up to over 1.4 but with the wind we were speeding up, going side ways, drift fishing at up to 1.7 some times or more. Way fun..ish. LOL
Ran into a couple of other members as well. Rsea, your wife beat our biggest. We got a a total of 15 for the 4 hours there and our biggest was 4.3 but lots of the 3 to 4 pounders. The one I was most proud of was a non plant from this year or last. It was 18 inches of strong fish. A totally different look that the ones put in this month and fought totally different too. He was airborn! Jumped over 6 times. The plants are like catching bulldozers. They hit and do every thing they can to go DOWN and away. Double over the Kokonee rods and were a TON of fun too.
As I said, we were pulling dark flys with some flash on them and a 3/4 inch gold willow blade in the front. The lake is cloudy and I think that color worked great. Found more fish when we put a dab of Bloody tuna gel on it at well.
On a funny add. Love the people that ask you what your using because they see you catching fish. you tell them, and they than say. "Well, were using Wedding rings" and putt away. Why do you ask if your not willing to swap up? You go prove me wrong son. LOL
