Fished Omak lake with a couple buddies and our dogs on Sat. Feb. 27th. This was my fist trip to Omak in search of some big Lahontan Cutthroat. We left Seattle friday night at midnight and got to the launch at the north end of the lake at about 5:00am. We waited for an hour or so for our buddy to arrive from Grand Coulee and then took our time setting up gear until first light. All three of us were trolling files with various floating and sinking lines. The action was hot from the start and seemed to get better on the West side of the lake, South of beer can beach. Our best method of fishing was to jam into shore at about 2mph and then kill then minn kota for a few seconds. Once we reached about three feet from the shore, kicked the minn kota back on again and jammed away from shore. Every time, this depth/speed change resulted in a fish. Over the course of the day we caught and released about 20 or so large Lahontan Cutts of various size maxing at about 20". Only 1 or 2 fish made it onto my camera and they were smaller ones. All the others were released without leaving the water. The dogs had a blast fighting over who could lick the net after each released fish. Wind was calm and the weather was nice. We called it quits at about 2:00pm and headed towards lake Roosevelt for some end of the day Kokanee action.

The spotting on the second pictured fish (blue jacket) is amazing! How did the lines not end up in the prop during the 3' reverse from shore? Okay, looks like the boat came close to shore, like a side swipe/ paralleling the shore. Then, killing the motor followed by an immediate increase in boat speed?
I was thinking the bow of the boat headed straight into shore, killing the motor. Then 3' before shore, full reverse for a speed change:-) I get it!

Large baitfish patterns that my buddy tied were what worked well. I'll try to post some photos. I also got a few on a black leech with uv. I tried patterns that had large strips of rabbit for extra movement, but the fish kept hitting the rabbit and not finding the hook.

There's some big fish in there. I've done it multiple times on my kayak. Just have to watch out for the wind. Shot this video a couple years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMdAbpALMoY
