This weekend I had Mark, Mike and Nick join me for two days of fishing on Lake Chelan. I arrived at the lake on friday morning to get a little "test fishing" in as I had a tough time locating good numbers of fish the week before. Jumped around to a few different spots and found fish in all of them. I started around party point and end with my 10 just below Mitchell creek. Game on for Saturday.

Saturday Morning we headed straight up lake and hammered out 23 Large (15-16") Kokanee. We had a lot of drive bys and lost fish. We tend to get soft biters before a weather system moves in and today was no exception. We spent the last hour fo the trip targeting Lake trout with on rod in the lower basin and found two nice sized fish that wanted to play. Also landed one more Kokanee and a cutthroat on the other side of the boat. Wasn't a lights out day of fishing but everyone had a good time. Depths for the Kokanee were 75-115 feet down and they wanted it slow. I spent most of my day doing .9-1 mph. Squid rigs and flies in pink and orange were the ticket and Herring scent was the best producer. Lake Trout wanted a squid rig in glow, strip of bait on deck.

Sunday we literally had a 3 hour window to fish before the weather blew in. We ran up lake in the dark and started just above the yatch club. We fished in rain, snow, and wind but the fishing was lights out. The fish were smaller at 12-14" but they were coming in the boat at a rapid pace. It felt like Lake Stevens out there, fish were grabbing lines on the surface, grabbing it while setting back, and if the roads went 5 minutes without a bite I was checking bait because the corn was gone. Same problem as Saturday though, there was quite a few lost fish. But by 10:30 we had our 30 fish limit and heading back to the boat ramp. We were cold and wet but when the fishing is that fast paced you forget about it. Depths were the same as Saturday but the hot scent changed over to Krill/Anise and Garlic.

I think as the next few weeks go on the lake will continue to fish better and better. This is the 3 year cycle for this Lake and I expect some great fishing as well as some nice sized fish. I have opening next month if anyone wants to get out and fish. Lets hit it!
