Hit Big Lake today for the first time this year. I launched and headed for the south end to go after the easy fish in and around the pads. Nothing touched a topwater or spinnerbait for about 100 yards, didn't even see a spooked fish? Got near the creek at that end and decided with the high bright skies and full moon I would slow down a bit so I picked up a 4" Yamamoto Senko in green rigged wacky style and made a couple casts around the mouth of the creek. First cast into the channel itself and my line started swimming back towards me, set the hook and it was a decent 2.9lber. Two casts later another, similar size. Started rolling with the Senko and getting tore up by small fish that wouldn't hook, sub-pounders, perch or crappie my guess? The outside edge of the pads was most productive except for one small fish that hit the Senko I had rigged weedless on a belly weighted hook. Since this seemed to be working well I motored back across the lake to the couple docks right before the pads start on the west side. On the second dock (last one before the pad field) I caught another 2.5lber, as I'm releasing it there's a huge boil from under the dock! Big enough that I looked around waiting for a beaver to surface ha-ha. Apparently the fish I caught had a big ol' girlfriend under that dock?! Multiple casts from one end to the other but nothing doin'.
Finishing my lap I headed back north out of the south end along the east side where I decided to try a few docks, only problem was the fish had ran me out of 4" Senkos and all I had left was 5".....apparently they gave a crap because the bites slowed way down. About 5 docks in I saw a bass slowly follow my bait out from under a dock, I tossed back in a deadsticked him until I felt the tap, another sub 3lber.
I made a pass through the north end and around a couple of my favorite docks but no action. I decided to make one last trip around the pads but upon my arrival there were 3 other boats in there... I caught another 1.8lber and the crappie in the pick near a buoy.
Headed home to get the shop ready for the Rt188's arrival :)
