Headed to Lake Stevens for the first time ever Wednesday. Fished hard all day from 8 am to 5 pm with only 2 bites that didn't hook up and no fish! Talked to 2 other boats that were also not having luck. Although there were 3 boats that were done fishing by 8 am that had their limits! Could it be it was just an early morning bite or do I just suck? Tried everything I could think of. Fish seemed to mark mostly at the 15 foot level though I tried anywhere from 5 to 60 ft throughout the day. Cold and intermittent rain. Surface temp 61 degrees. Either it was an off day for Kokanee bites or I must have had salmon deterrent on my fingers. Maybe just need to start earlier, storm front moving in, who knows but I was humbled for my first outing on Stevens.

Some days you just can't buy a bite it happens that is fishing. Keep your head up and try again another day. Did you ask the other boats what they were using and how deep they were, sometimes its worth the question as most will tell you. tight lines.

8am is too late. Often the hot bite is done by then. You want to be fishing that first 45-30 minutes before sunrise - motor out in the dark and have lines ready to drop as soon as you can see your rod tips to detect a bite. Keep your leaders to max 12" total overall length. Keep at it, Stevens is by no means easy. Also, none of my fish have come below 30' - all in the top 10-25. Got 13 last night after work.

Thanks for the tips. Next time I'll get a much earlier start. Can't imaging tackle was the problem with all the popular offering's I've accumulated. The only fish caught reported that day were living at 25 ft but I was marking most at 15 ft range +/- 5 ft. I won't give up I was just amazed at how many fish I bounced lures in front of and no takers.

I had the same problem that day, 630 to 730 I lost two, then no more bites, I headed back at 1130. Then fixed a flat tire on the trailer, just in time for rush hour traffic.... crappy day for me.
