So on last day of the Chelan get together Sunday May 1st I got the bad news from buddy Leonard that they had closed lake Washington back home!! Made the decision to leave the Tin Cup at my brother in laws in Ephrata since I would be back in 2 weeks to fish the annual Sun Lakes resort fishing derby.

On Friday May 13th made the drive back over the mountains to pick up the Tin Cup and my niece and nephew to participate in the derby at Park lake on Saturday. I rented a cabin for the week like I do every year for my week long of eat-sleep-and fish marathon in eastern WA; so we bedded down the kids with high hopes of once again, placing well in the derby as have in years past.

Woke up at 5 am to a blistering wind and was hoping it would die down before the derby started at 8 am. Well at 7 it was still blowing pretty good so got the kids packed up and headed out to find a secluded spot to soak some power bait. We motored over to our little cove but couldn't get the anchors to hold so tried down the lake behind a little island but same results.

Finally found a spot close to the highway just before the first big house on the lake and dropped the anchors and they held! That's about all I have to report because we got skunked!!!! Not a bite!! At 11am Colton said we should try trolling so we motored around but no takers but did see some good marks on the bottom down by the west end of the lake.

After the awards and raffle my nephew wanted to fish out of my boat in the slip at the boat launch- i said why not, we haven't tried that yet. Wouldn't you know it 5 minutes in, his rod bounces down and he hauls in a healthy chunky 2 lb rainbow! Go figure! Oh well, good to see a smile on his face and now it's time to get ready for my buddy Craig arriving Sunday and what would be our plan of attack and where! Reports to follow!
