Friday May 13-After getting back to the resort and filleting my walleye, I got the 5 cabins ready for the arrival of our men's ministry spring fishing retreat but didn't have good news for these guys as fishing has been tough to say the least at Park lake this year. Rumors have it that they will be killing off the lake this year as they do every 10-12 years so did not get the plant it usually does in the fall after the closure but again, only rumors so not really sure what the reason.

Anyway, as they started rolling in so did the clouds and wind! After getting unpacked, some of us ventured out into the lake to get it a go. Shout out to Fish Dawg who called with some tips to have some success out here; but the boat with the most action was once again, Nick with his grandfather Bob Huff trailing hand tied flies! Soon a squall was moving in so we barely made it back in when the skies released a torrent of rain upon us as we ran back to our cabins!

Saturday May 14- We woke up at 5 am and put out breakfast goodies for all and thanked the Lord for a beautiful morning with overcast skies but no wind! We thanked Him for other things too and soon were all plying the waters of Park lake in search of some willing biters! For the 1st time in a week that I have been here saw some surface activity so was excited that we may get to see some bending rods! Well the 1st fish went to Tony who landed a nice 21" silver beauty caught on a rapala type lure with orange belly that was actually fin clipped and chrome bright with red flesh! Then of course the hot boat once again was on Mr. Huff's with grandson nick at the helm- but by 'hot' I don't mean they tore it up but out fished others with about 4 fish and kept one nice 17"er. My boat partner Greg and I got skunked!

So after lunch we tried soaking power bait since trolling wan't working for us- again no bites! We headed in for dinner and Greg was too tired to go back out so Tony was anxious to go for another so we went out for the evening troll. I changed things up and since most of these fish were hold overs I decided to try something that works for me on Lake WA so put on a sling blade with and slow death hook threaded with a 3" gulp minnow and as we were heading in at 8:30 had my rod bury into the water! Fish on!! These fish are scrappy and real put up a tussle so took a while to finally get it into the net but now my skunk was over!!

Sunday was a bust as the winds really kicked up but all in all another wonderful weekend of fishing, fellowship and fun as the kids that came spent time swimming and playing miniture golf and all went home looking forward to next years trip Lord willing!

See you on the water!

We had the same luck at Blue Lk just south of you. I also heard the same about killing the lake off. Kind of a bummer when we had quite a few young-uns with our party and were not able to put hardly any fish on the line for them. I dont expect an e-mail from the powers that be about not stocking the lake but C'mon man at least let the public in on it. We hit that lake every year and have never had trouble getting the kids a few fish. Why put a gazillion small fry in it recently if the intentions are to kill it off. Just my thoughts.
