I hiked up to 8 mile lake yesterday near Leavenworth. It's 7 miles roundtrip, and by the time I got to the top it was much colder and windier than at the trailhead. I fished for several hours and caught a few decent cutthroat, but I think the water's still a bit cold for them to be really active (47 degrees). I lost some nice lures and my raft sprung a leak, so my fishing was't nearly as good as maybe it could have been. Still, it's a great hike and at least I didn't get skunked.

August the fish are extremely aggressive. No raft needed. Head to the right side of the lake as you come off the trailhead. Look for the rock slide. It’s a steep drop off. Use blue fox spinners. Carry multiple colors fro chartreuse, pink, orange, yellow, black metallic. Use one lure until the fish stop biting then switch to another and they will start again. I killed it this August up there. Lakers and cutthroat 16-22”. More than I can count.
