My fishing buddy took me to a spot on American Lake where he had been catching a few rainbows this past month. He chided me for bringing along my bass pole rather than my other pole I use for trout. I just happen to have the shorter one because it fit better in the trunk of my car and I was bass fishing the other day and hadn't switched out poles yet. Anyway, he showed me his rig and set me up too. There were about 9 others fishing the same area when we arrived at noon. No one was pulling them out, but a few fish had been caught during the day. We used yellow garlic power bait beads to begin with. In less than five minutes after my first cast I landed a nice chrome rainbow about 18" and 1.5 lbs. I proved size doesn't matter and my buddy was jealous. After about 90 minutes he finally hooked a nice planter too. In all I saw about five fish caught during that 90 minutes at the South end of the lake. Not a great day, but productive!

At the bottom. We used a 9 foot leader. Too many people were fishing near 6 feet, but the 9 feet seemed to be the mark.
