After reading in the paper about the excellent bullhead catfish creels from Sprague, I decided to give it a try. The day was great! mild temps, no winds and mostly sunny.
I saw 8 boats on the lake that day. I tried catfishing the first 4 hours with no bites. I then tried my luck on the Walleyes. I found males in about 5 foot of water, catching several juniors. The females seemed to be down about 12 foot. I used shad looking plugs, and jigging a wedding ring tipped with a worm.
I talked with several other fishmen to see how they did. One boat had no fish, no bites. The other boat caught 2 large bass, which they released, and 5 walleyes, all under 17".
I had to agree with the last person I talked to. He thinks the walleye and bass are enjoying a rainbow fry buffet from the 15,000 rainbows just released there.
The lake level is up enough to launch from all launch site seven from the free state launch on the southwest side of the lake. Be alert to notice the state sign as it a very tiny sign.
Several of the local fisherman seemed worried about the possible water levels later on in June and July. The lake may drop enough that it would stop boat launches from the state site.
