We loaded up the boat and hit the road to try our luck at Big Lake for the first time this season. We arrived at the launch about 30 min before sunrise. It didn't take long to get hooked up with our first fish of the day. It was a small one but definitely built my confidence on the wacky worm for the rest of the day.
As the morning went on we caught lots of sub 1 pounders still searching for the beasts. Most of the early morning fish were caught on Live Action crankbaits or the 4" Yum Dinger green watermelon with red flake. It seemed like the only way I could get them to take it was a more finesse approach wacky rigged so that's what I stuck to.
Later on in the morning the wind really started to pick up so we headed to the north end of the Lake to stay out of the wind. I'm glad we did bc that's when the real fun began. We found a stretch with a couple nice docks with deep heavy grass cover that produced our 2 biggest fish of the day. The first 2.7 pounder was caught pitching the wacky rigged 4" dinger into a heavy grass bed. The first pitch he spit the hook but I was lucky enough toss it in the same spot and fish on! A few flips later with the Yum Dinger the 3.7 pounds bass slammed it on the fall under a docked boat!
Overall another great day on the water with friends, fish, and beautiful weather. We topped it all of with a brew and burger at Big Lake Bar and Grill. It doesn't get much than that.
