Took my daughter out for an afternoon of fishing on a local lake. It was our first time on Ward lake but figured since it was small I could dial up some fish even though it was late in the day and not the best time for fishing. I don't have downriggers so put a 3/4 oz trolling weight infront of a 50/50 dodger leading to a pink pline hoochie and the other rod was a red/green wedding ring with a smile blade. Between 50-75 pulls (feet) was the ticket as we had several takedowns and kept the rods bouncing just not long enough to get the fish to the boat. Finally after 3 hours we were ready to go as the sun was beating us down. As we were heading toward the boat launch and in the middle of the lake I saw the rod with the hoochie go down. I had my daughter take the rod and start reeling. She kept saying "Daddy it's a whopper, a kokanee whopper" I helped stabilize the rod as she reeled and sure enough as the fish neared the boat it was a kokanee and a nice sized "whopper" at about 14". She was so excited and I was so proud of her patience and willingness to stick it out. Got her to stick a finger through the gill plate for a photo attached.
