Hit the lake around 8:30 straight lining a small silver flasher and black and olive woolley bugger with an action disc and immediately started catching trout. Problem was they were about 7 inches long...so back they went. This happened most of the day and I got about 25 of them. Changed out lures, flashers, etc but just small ones. After putting on a 1 1/2 oz lead with the original setup I finally got a 12 incher and kept it. Then nothing so I switched to bass fishing and got a couple small ones and returned them and the thought I'd trout fish for a little longer before heading home and removed the weight to straight line again but it was just small ones again so I started trolling towards the boat launch and then BAM the rod doubled over and I thought I had snagged something like a tree. I grabbed the rod from the holder and when I started reeling it spun and towed my little inflatable kayak. I quickly figured out it was a fish as it took off HARD. I brought it in and it ran over and over and really didn't tire out and when I did get it next to the boat it was thrashing and rolling like a Florida gator. I was SURE it was going to get off but I finally got it in my little rubber fly fishing net with it tail not fitting and sticking out. I gave out a hoot and the entire lake was looking at me like I was crazy. This motivated me to circle the lake one more time but nothing but little ones again so I hit the beach to get a good look and measure/weigh the beast. During this a guy came by who said he's fished the lake for 20 years and never seen a trout that large come out. It measure at 22 inches and 4 pounds. Cleaned and filet at home and it has the most beautiful red meat.
