Well, today wife and I got up at 2:30am (not our style) to head for baker lake. I tired this fishery for the first time last year and my kicker wouldnt idle down slow enough because it decided to run bad that day....of course....so I felt like this was my redemption trip.

New simrad nss9, kicker running like a top, new flashers, cha-cha's, home cured shrimp and a whole lotta research I was determined to catch this illusive(not really) fish!!

Got to the launch at 4:45, and had a 20 minute wait in line on a Monday morning....crazy. Once in the water we motored over to the south shore, of the north end of the lake. Not sure what it's called but the fleet was there.... Didn't even get the first rod in the rod holder and BAM!!! The clip pops and holy crap comes a sockeye flying out of the water 30' behind my boat! Game on!! Nice little battle and a few runs later wife netted my first sockeye! Sweet!!

Not 5 minutes into the day and a fish in the box. I was prepared for an epic day!!

5 hours later and only one more hooked, and lost we decided to pack up and head out.. What happened to this epic day?? Talked to many folks who only had one, or even none. Weird. Didn't see hardly anything on the sounder either. Just read another guys report and sounds like they are hiding where I wasn't. Oh well. Next time. At least I have red meat on the BBQ tonight.

The lake is way up...started rising Friday & is still high...floating all sorts of debris. Assuming this is putting them off the bite. Thursday (opener), the lake was much lower...no debris...and the bite was torrid! I'm waiting until lake lowers some to try again. The launch at Kulshhan is excellent & never a wait..only a bit longer run but no lines! And, lots of parking! Good luck!

Love the boxer picture! I have a boxer as well, and he wants to help me clean fish every time. Curious what launch you were at?

Thanks for the info kurtkettel. I'm itchin to try again. I want a limit for the freezer!! :)

JoshH, that's my little buddy Milo, he's 6 months old and got a little sockeye scrap snack. Shhhhh don't tell my wife. We are at panorama point.

Thanks. I am planning on going up there the 19th, trying to decide how early I need to get there to launch and actually be able to park. If I turn my head while I am cleaning/filleting, our boxer will find a fish head and lick it clean. His favorite is when I dump the ice out, nothing better than fishy ice to him. Milo is a handsome fella!

Be careful with raw salmon around your dog. They can get a parasite that is often fatal to dogs. Look up salmon poisoning in dogs.

Thanks for the report. We were there too 10th, 11th, 12th. Went a combined 3 for 11 in 3 days...tough sledding to be sure. Monday was our best day for hook-ups with 6 but only got 1 to the boat including losing both ends of our only double for the trip. Will be back after them in a couple weeks.

Good luck and tight lines!
