Took off for Potholes Monday morning about 0430. Always a fun trip regardless of how the fishing is. While the fishing was anything but hot this trip I still managed to boat some bass, spook some deer, got attacked by birds and saw one of the craziest cars I've ever seen!
For the record: Algae was starting to pick up Monday and pretty much doubled overnight! Nasty! Lind Coulee you could walk on the stuff and the only clean water I could find day one was way back by the Winchester Wasteway which was really moving strong! Water temps were in the low 70's and rose about 2-4 degrees from morning to afternoon.
Caught some largies. The biggest was a spawned out 4.2, but I sat anchored in one spot for an hour casting at the same bush and caught and released 15 bass that were sitting in a little ditch. They ranged in size from .5 to the 4.2lber, lost 4 others and one broke my hook! I caught them on a Senko, T-Rig, soft fluke and jig here. Other than this "hole" I only caught 2 other largemouth, one flipping and one I saw busting fry so I threw what was in my hand, a T-rigged 10" Power worm with a 1/20z unpegged weight and caught him 2.2lbs and on day 2 I only landed 2 smallies both dinks while being dive bombed by white birds near Goose Island but was treated to a heck of a sunrise!
I expected more but I think the algae had a say this trip, it really got bad day 2 and I pulled out at 10am. I may head back over in the fall? We will be on Banks in August for the first time, if that goes well I may never go back to Potholes LOL....joking of course.
