Spent a week at Riffe Lake, camping at Taidnapam and fishing most days at the lake. For reference, I fished the lake the same time period last year with much better results. Lake level is about ten feet lower, and is going down. Even though I was able to get limits daily, the fish are much smaller than in the past, with the average fish about ten inches or less. I marked significantly fewer fish this year as compared with last year and is was more difficult to find the schools of fish. Pink hoochies seemed to be the top choice at about 50 to 60 feet in 100 FOW, trolling about 1.1mph.

If fishing this lake, watch out for the floating logs and partially hidden, submerged stumps. Some are only inches below the surface. Talking with park rangers, the water level is expected to continue to drop.

Thanks for the report. Fished the "bridge" last year and had a really good time. Any ideas why they keep dropping the water level?

Spoke with a couple people about this. My understanding it may be for several reasons why the water level is decreasing. One employee stated it was because of work on an upstream dam. Discussing this with a park ranger, the unusually warm weather in April and May and resultant snow melt, and work on two of the generators at the Mossy Rock dam has forced them to lower the water level. I just wished they managed the levels to keep it 10ft or more higher on an average.
