Well got invited to fish with Sickbayer so we made our plan to head up at dark O thirty to Baker Lake for the elusive Sockeye Salmon. I woke up the day before to get ready to go and make the 3 hr trip and pick Sickbayer up along the way. I arrived at his house at 1:20 am and hooked up his boat to my truck and we were off and running to the hills.

Got to the lake at Swiftcreek campground just after 3 am and were excited to find the fish. Got all settle in and ran the boat up the lake to the noisy creek area and dropped our lines. Trolled around and started to mark a ton of fish but none willing or interested in our offerings. We kept the speed around 1 mph and kept the faith going......and going and going. Around 8:30 am we saw the first fish caught at the upper center of the lake. A few minutes later we saw another one same spot. We were kicking our own asses trying to figure out what we were doing wrong. Only good thing those two fish were the only fish we saw caught so did not beat our self's up to bad.

We stayed till about 1:30 pm and headed in with not one fish or drive by nada zip zilch. Now Sickbayer has a very nice boat and set up pretty dang good for fishing, I had never fished from a sled and it was pretty cool. Great guy to fish with and conversations were fantastic. Can't wait to fish again with you mate!!

Baker lake beat us today but there always next time. The weather was perfect overcast with some sun in the afternoon. The boat traffic was way less the then the weekend but still a lot of boats on the water, with everyone going where's the fish???? I can't wait till the end of the month to try again for four days. No pics as I forgot my phone in the truck...but we all know what Baker looks like right.

This round of fish sure seem to not be biting well, or very picky. The reports from the river were pretty bad and that seems to have continued in the lake. I may get a chance (if I get enough work done today) to chase some Lake Wenatchee sockeye Sunday evening and Monday AM in the pontoon, so hopefully I do better than I did at Baker.

I would be careful out at lake Wenatchee on a pontoon. I went last year in my inflatable raft that is rigged up but the winds pick up pretty nasty without a warning. I had to be hauled back in by a friend who was fishing from his boat. The am was fine right up until 10am then it was 4 ft waves along the whole lake.

It was good the first week it was open. I didn't get to fish the opener because they opened early. I caught 3 and lost 4 in 3 days on the 13-15th. Which is Ok but not as good as last year. I too think the water levels have a lot to do with fishing. Also the barometric changes and lots more pressure have an affect. I only saw a few schools this year. Also noticed the counts are down as far as how many fish are being transferred. The Baker lake fish are brighter, bigger and fiestier. if that is a word than Lake Wenatchee fish so they are worth the effort.

I agree, I know they hold back some for the hatchery but the last few days they have kept them all not putting any in the lake. Going to make it hard for the weekend fishing but you never know. This was my third trip and hope the next one is the best one, as I am going to camp there for a few days and hope to find fish willing to go home with me. The lake today is a perfect high for fishing lets hope they keep it there, should be a good weekend!!
