Dumbbell is the closest choice for where we went. Went for a 3 day 2 night hike up on the PCT from white pass. The 5 stars are for the whole experience, we did each catch a really nice Cutthroat, each one made a meal for 2. Saw lots of little guys near shore. When these big guys hit they hit like a truck, I thought I was snagged the way my line stopped until I saw the pole dancing. Caught mine on a silver/blue kastmaster, friend caught on a rainbow krockadile. The little guys played with worms and flys and would follow the lures and spinners.
WDFW says the last plant was in 2011 or 12, all these little guys are to young for that. We don't know if Cuts can spawn without a stream or not, so maybe there was another plant? So many lakes up there on this segment of the PCT, cant wait to get back and try some others.
For the amount of bugs we could see, other than the little fish, there wasn't much activity going after them. Did see a lone cow elk nearby.
I heard before hand the dumbbell has not produced fish for a few years, so we didn't even try, we took the cramer lake trail from dog lake then caught the PCT after dumbbell.
Get out and explore, there are tons of lakes up there.
