JoAnn, myself, and our dogs got up to fish Baker lake after enduring a horrible Friday night traffic jam on I5 north, Everett. So many cars and bad traffic, yuck! We did arrive eventually and had a nice pizza dinner, then put the boat in the water and set anchor for our first night of boat-camping in our new boat. Had a few kinks to work out, but all in all it was comfortable and worked well. More room, but we had less privacy without a cuddy. Some more tweaks to be done…

The water level is high and there is a lot of driftwood floating around, so be on the lookout when motoring about.

We fished Saturday and Sunday and the action could be best summed up by the picture we took of the two guys in the small boat, the guy in the front is snoozing – that was us. For whatever reason, we had no success whatsoever. Whether fishing the Noisy Creek end of the lake or the dam end of the lake, or even mid lake at the big bend we had no bites. Deep, shallow, different gear, different scents, prawns, no prawns… all were met with indifference by said lock-jaw sockeye.

That’s not to say no one was catching fish. We saw three netted on Saturday and two netted on Sunday. Intel from fellow NWFR members (Hi everyone!) were mixed. Racer, DJ, and FishDawg were either heard from boatside or by text. Except for a few successful anglers the general consensus was “not good”. I spoke to one guide who pounded the water for 9 hours with six clients and caught three fish. So ya, it’s tough.

Not to say hopeless though. A couple guys reported doing very well on Friday. I know everyone is racing over to lake Wenatchee, but per a conversation I had with rseas – don’t give up, the lake tends to fish better even into August.
