Had the opportunity to fish with some good company today. Launched at about 0800 and headed for Geneva Point hoping to get in on some smallies on the rocky point. Not so much as a strike here. Worked back north on the east side and picked up a dink here and there. Motored back up to the big flat on that side and hit a few more smaller fish along the way and along the wood pilings, drop shot and grubs seemed to work ok in this area. Spinners were just getting followed for the most part with the occasional dink.
We took some time to run to South Bay and fished a couple rocky areas along the way. Way deep and way clear down here!! You could literally watch the little fish come off the cover and track down your lure! Would have been cooler if they were 2lbers and not 12 inchers...
South bay was dead and someone was fishing the creek areas in the SE corner no we ran all the way back up to Strawberry Point and decided to fish that entire cove to the rock island. Things finally picked up starting with a moose that devastated my spinnerbait and snapped my line on the hookset! :(
Started getting into better fish including a 2.5lb and a 4.4lber! My co-angler finally shook the dink disease and boated a nice 2.6lber about 30 minutes before we pulled out at about 1600. Caught enough small fish to stay alert until the better fish struck, didn't land them all but it's still a lot of fun!
I'm looking forward to September and October already!! Time to start boating some bruisers consistently again!
