A little bit late on the posting, but figured I would put out a report real quick. The family and I were camping at Mountain Lake, and naturally, I had my fishing gear along. One particular morning I booked it out of camp early to make the hike up to twin lakes before the sun hit the water, hoping to find a stringer full of Brookies to bring back for breakfast over the fire. Long story short, the lakes didn't disappoint. Almost right away I saw fish rising, although I couldn't get into right off the bat with kastmasters. I worked my way over to the steeper side of the lake where I have had better luck in the past and set up one rod with pink garlic power eggs on the bottom, not my preferred method of fishing but will gladly use it if I actually plan to eat the fish, and started casting a 1/16oz silver blade/black body roostertail with my other rod. It wasn't long before the bait rod went off and I reeled in the first of what would be my limit of decent Brookies, however, I wasn't getting any love on the roostertail. Moving on to a spot that was a little deeper, I continued using the same dual rod and lure/bait setup, eventually making the decision to fish deeper with the roostertail. Up until this point I had only been fishing the top few feet of the water column due to the huge number of downed trees ringing the lake, however, that clearly wasn't working and it is no secret to me that feisty fish are often found down closer to the bottom.

Throwing caution to the wind, on my very next cast I let my roostertail sink much deeper, and just like that it was fish on. Reeled that Brookie in and soon got another with the same deeper retrieve technique, as well as a fourth on the power bait. Hit a lull at this second productive spot, so moved to a third, even deeper, spot where the lake basically drops straight down a small cliff face. Casting the roostertail and retrieving it deep brought in my fifth and final brookie. It only took two hours of fishing, and realistically I was only truly fishing effectively for about half of that. Didn't find any big ones, but it was still a nice stringer, with all of the fish cutting a nice deep orange color.

Tight Lines!

Thanks guys. The fish cut a very deep orange color, about like the color of a good Steelhead.
