Got in another great trip to our local kokanee lake. We found a break in the weather about 4 down in Okanogan. So we hit the road for Conconully upper lake. As we drove by the lower lake it was raining on the reservoir (aka the lower lake) and to the southwest. As we made the turn to the upper lake it stopped raining and never did make it up to the upper lake. Fishing was a little slow at first.
Not sure if it was the weather on the lower end of the lake but we fished for a hour to get 2 fish. So we went to the upper end just past the houses.
This is where it went nuts. We couldn't keep up. Both of our boys finished by clearing out their own set of doubles to fill their limits. This is a good reminder that if the fish are not taking the bait in one part of the lake they may be off the charts on the other side. So don't be afraid to leave the fish that are not going to bite for fish that will.
The typical Mack's DD dodgers, UV smile blade, on orange hand tied hoochies. Tried a couple flies, and chartreuse hoochie, and a shasta tackle hum dinger just to go all orange hoochies. Im using 20# seaGuar floro leaders to stop breaking leaders on the hit. These things are slamming the rods and poping downrigger clips. I love filling our cooler with 14"+ kokanee.
Spent all day monday smoking kokanee. We put away over 100 filets for winter! The sooner i eat them the sooner i can start going to Roosevelt for some monster kokes!
Wife says im done for the season... I say my birthday is sunday. Fishing from dawn till limit or 11 which ever comes first. Then Seahawks at 1. How does it get better than that.
Tight lines.
