Finally the date for our first fall fishing weekend arrived. Down to only 4 of us (3 boats) from an initial 6 or 7 from Kitsap County, Thom and I headed to Potholes Reservoir, while Tony and Linda headed to Banks Lake. We arrived at the SE launch around noon, after stopping in at MarDons for a last minute update. Nope, the fishing apparently was as bad as you might infer from the reports, or more accurately, lack of them. While setting up before launch, the rain hit. There was something like a 2% chance, of very little rain hitting, but it found us! It wasn't a downpour, but enough to make a the wind situation a little less appealing. Thom and I motored west and spent maybe 90 minutes trolling the area south of Goose Island, in 15'-35' of water. Bottom bouncers, with worms, slow death hooks and various colored smile blades produced nothing. Neither did deep crankbaits. The wind didn't help and few sightings on the fish finders encouraged us to try somewhere else. At least the rain had stopped. We motored over to Medicare beach, but not too fast because we were getting soaked by the chop. Bottom bouncing between 15' and 35' got us nowhere, though I think Thom got a small perch, which he released. In an effort to get out of the wind, and hopefully into some fish, we left for Linde Coulee and trolled the north shore for maybe 45 minutes, but again got nothing. When it started raining again and the wind hadn't slowed down, we decided to call it an early day. Since we'd planned to fish until mid Monday, this was discouraging, but only day one. Potholes was amazing in 20014 & 2015, but this just seems to be an off year. Rather than sticking around on Saturday, we decided to join our friends up at Banks, and headed that way the next morning.
