In what's probably the last time fishing in the next 2-3 weeks, I just went to Beaver Lake with my 6yo son.
We were there last week and got a pretty big trout, but it de-hooked when it was literally one step away from us (shore fishing) and swam away. It was so frustrating that we decided to go get it back lol.
Still last week we went back and got literally nothing, not even a bite, but today was different.
We spent a total of 4 hours fishing from the shore and got 2 trouts: a 15" 1.6 pound (me) and a 18" 2.3 pound (my son).
Funny enough, the 15" put up a pretty good fight, swimming in different directions and pulling hard, I had to walk around the shore to avoid crossing the lines with our other rod.
Before those two fishes, we got a few bites after 1 hour of NOTHING, and then those bites they were all escaping. So I changed the hooks for wider ones (we were using pretty narrow ones before) and after just a few minutes it worked out well. We got the 2 trouts within 10-15 minutes.
After that, we had another 1.5 hour of very little bites (probably 2 or 3), then started to rain badly and we packed up.
It was very cold throughout the morning, but still, good fun.
Looking at the forecast ahead, I guess it will take another couple weeks (at least) to start fishing again.
Happy new Year.
