3/25/2017 2:29:00 PMGotta feel good you didn't sink your boat. I remember when I was kid fishing off of a dock at a boat launch - a guy was launching his boat - got out of his truck and forgot to put in park - watched his whole rig go under water. Feel fortunate your situation had a better outcome.
Is there a reason to pull your plug? Some law or something? I've never pulled my plug unless washing out my boat. Unless your boat leaks why? It just weakens your plug with the constant loosing and tightning. My thoughts anyway could be wrong though.

3/25/2017 7:26:00 PMI store my boat outdoors, with a cover but water might find a way in. Our service guy told us a story about a boat that completely filled with water and compromised the hull and totaled the boat. From now on I'm keeping the plug in and just checking for water. Actually my Lund will not sink but I don't really want to test that theory. Thanks for the story, poor guy loosing his boat, not a good day for sure.

3/26/2017 7:01:00 AMLeaving the plug out of a boat that is stored outdoors is a good idea, simply to avoid excess water build up in the bilge, like you mentioned. A thought might be to find a small container or even simply a short section of cord, and attach either at the front of the trailer tongue at the hitch. keep the plug in the container or hanging from the cord. That way you see it every time the boat is hooked up to the truck and can put it in before leaving home.

3/26/2017 5:35:00 PMA couple of good reason to pull the plug other than mentioned above: 1) Water freezes and can break lines and crack the bilge pump etc. 2) Wood rots and if you keep it soaked it will dry rot over time. Lots of boat have wood in their hull design. Maybe leave it in during the warmer months and drain well during the colder months after each use would be a good compromise and you would probably sink less often.
Funny story though, I launched a brand new boat once at a remote launch in Idaho and there was no plug anywhere on the boat. Had to trailer it and drive into a nearby town and buy one after nearly sinking. Great customer service.

3/27/2017 7:43:00 AMI think all of us have done that; can't get it back on the trailer fast enough! I just toss my plug in the splash well, a quick look tells me if I put it in. I actually have a spare there too and it always makes my friends ask if the plug is in; great backup for us old guys!! Looks like you were on Roosevelt not Long Lake though.

Yes, we were on Lake Roosevelt, just couldn't find it in county listing, it's under Columbia River instead....I was informed. Don't see where it edit either. Oh well, next time.
