3/26/2017 8:21:00 PMNice fish, dog, and airplane...three of my favorite things. I live on Goodwin and snorkeled quite a bit of it and absolutely hate how much garbage is on the bottom. I'm not surprised you caught some carpet. I've seen sunken dingies lost lawn chairs tires fishing rods and enough beer bottles and cans to fill a truck. Love the lake until the jet skis and wake surfers get out there in the summer.

3/26/2017 9:19:00 PMYea the jet skiers don't bother me as much as the wakeboarders do. For some reason the entire lake has to hear their music, and I swear that they purposefully seek out the guy in the kayak. The only saving grace about all of the summer watersports is that it takes the fishing pressure off and makes for healthy undisturbed fish come fall.

3/27/2017 11:06:00 AMNice but something should be done about your reel clicker,lol. Do you ever notice the trout in Goodwin being full of whip worms inside the gut cavity? Seems every trout the last couple years have been full of them. I release all mine now because of it.

I seen a new one put out by Jackson(?) it is 38" wide and said to be almost impossible to roll.
But then I watch Hobie Outdoors every Sunday and wish I had one of those like the one you have.
Oh well....my Pontoon is stable and does what I need it to do so....

3/27/2017 1:42:00 PMfishkin - the clicker is one of those things i keep trying to remind myself to turn it off, but never remember. When I am fishing I somehow don't even notice it. As far as worms in the gut cavity, yea I have seen a few, but then again I've seen a few from every body of water I've ever fished. I think I've had maybe 2 in the past 2 years I've fished Goodwin. I don't remember any ever before that. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the folks jet skiing etc. are in more danger. Think of all of that water they've gulped down :) My understanding is that if you've ever had a salmonid, you've ingested a parasite of some type, just most you can't see. If a fish ever has anything visible in the meat itself, or something like the liver is messed up, into the freezer it goes for bait. Otherwise, cook it right and you're fine.

Salmon King - it's a blast. I've had it out in the sound no problems. Granted I am too chicken to get much more than a half mile from the beach, and I try staying in sheltered areas. I've seen guys though launch with 6 foot breakers and fish in 3 foot rollers... not me though. Best part is that I am able to tell my wife I am fishing so much because I get great exercise! I've pedaled the thing for 8 hours non stop, and didn't even realize it, until I set foot back on land :) I love the way you can accessorize the Hobie. A lot get tons more elaborate than I have.

3/27/2017 7:10:00 PMI talked to ya briefly on the water yesterday. Unfortunately girlfriend wanted to leave before sun came out. Appears the fishing got a bit better than. I'm impressed with catch rate with flies at 25' down!

3/27/2017 8:07:00 PMTightlines - this time of of year I find the holdovers tend to stay near bottom. I can usually catch as many fish as I want if I fish 5-10 feet down. I think the larger fish stay near near bottom cause thats where they head in the summer as the lake warms, and once it cools they stay there cause its just what they know. My theory, no actual proof other than my own anecdotal evidence. Where you the couple fishing near the older guy with the chocolate lab? I think I left just after you. There was an older guy at the dock that was taking his boat out to test his new gear. He was trying to fish but brought his tackle box with salmon gear on accident. I offered him some flies and a dodger, but he wanted a spoon so I gave him one and he headed back out.
Ive had my best luck there trolling flies, either Doc Spratleys or Woolly Buggers. That lake is just stuffed with aquatic insects. Ive tried typical type gear there suck as pop gear with wedding rings tipped with a nightcrawler, flatfisb, different spoons etc. I just have better luck with wet trolling flies. Once the hatch really starts Ive watched guys there just kill it fishing chromonids 3-5 feet under an indicator.

3/28/2017 4:56:00 PM12-14 inches typically. Short because I want the dodger to put quite a bit of movement into the fly. Late in the summer I seem to need to lengthen that out a little bit.
