Fished the pier this morning around 6:00 AM. Weather was very nice with clear skies and calm water. When I arrived at my usual spot, I was astonished to see my friend who caught about 5 dozen herring. All of the herring were perfect bait size and there were also a few smelt that was about 10 inches long. Lot of bait out there but there weren't any fish caught when I got there. Usually this time of the year people would be catching the kings already. After 1 hour of unproductive fishing I finally found a willing biter which slammed my jig hard. Fought that sucker for about 5 minutes before landing it. Pulled the scale at 11 lbs. Nice bright buck! Cleaned the fish and went home around 8:00 AM. Still had a few hours to get back in bed :)
