Saturday (1/18), my friend Barry and I set out to get some blackmouth. We launched at Armeni in W. Seattle. The day was cold but clear and the sun would soon be up. We launched the boat and headed straight out to 140' of water. We fished with the usual white/glow Hot Spot and white/glow hoochie off the downriggers. I turned on the Black Box, dropped our offerings down to 150', dialed in the voltage (.680), and started to catch fish immediately. In just two and a half hours we boated a dozen shakers. At 10:30, Barry had to return to the launch to get back home. I stayed and continued to fish. I stayed out for another couple of hours, till two. I caught another dozen blackmouth but no keeper size fish. Some where very close in length and nice and fat.
Sunday (1/19), I fished Elliott Bay with JD in his boat. We launched at Armeni and ran over to Todd Shipyard to get away from the moochers that were fishing in front of Salty's. The weather was overcast with some mist. We used hoochies and spoons for the blackmouth this time. To make a long story short, JD boated three shakers, using spoons, and I got skunked.
I found it very odd to catch two dozen fish one day then fish the next day and not catch anything.
