The coho fishing was hot today! My sons and I met Tom Jacobs at Shilshole and after dropping off his pots we motored over to Meadow Point. We started fishing 0700. Within two minutes of dropping our gear we had our first of several doubles for the day. First, the setups: Downriggers. Deep rod at 55 feet, medium red flasher and glow green hoochie. Herring strip. Second line, 45 feet, large re flasher, magnum green glow hoochie and herring strip. Center pole, Deep 6, chrome dodger, army truck hoochie, herring strip. We set the troll speed at 2.1-2.4 mph.

From 7 till about 9:30 the action was steady. Of note, every time one rod went off, I would slow the boat down to about 1.5 mph and BAMM! the second rod would go off. This happened four times. The coho averaged 3-7 pounds. We also hooked two nice bright chums. The first one took a screaming run that ran my line down to the backing. I have never had that happen before. I was seriously contemplating having to run it down. A sweet 14 pound fish. The other chum was bigger, 16 pounds, but went deep and played bulldog. He was caught by my son Matt. I refused to take the rod from him when he said he didn't think he could bring it in. He did - nice job Matt!

Ended the day at 10:45 with a limit of 6 coho and 2 chum. All but one coho were hatchery fish. Came back in and sorted out four nice keeper crabs. Great day on the water!
