Ah, fishing adventures - one of life's joys. After picking up Tom and Carl at 6am, we headed south on I-5 into the heart of Wednesday's snow storm. Hey, the weather man was talking wind and rain when I went to bed - no sweat. As we approached Olympia the snow was coming thicker and thicker. So the traffic came to a complete halt and we waited patiently for whatever ahead of us had caused this delay. And we waited. And we waited. By 10:30 traffic started (moving?) and we crawled the rest of the way to Hoodsport, past the many vehicles that went off the side of the road. We must have looked insane. Three guys packed in a truck towing a boat while 8 inches of snow got dumped on everyone. When we arrived, safe, the boat launch was unusable under 6 inches or so of slippery mush. So we went back to the Potlatch S.P. and pulled over. We fished from 11:30 to 4pm and I must say the drive was worth it! The chums were in, they were aggressive, and they kept us busy. Carl had the hot touch, but Tom and I caught our share of fish as well. We managed to catch many in the mouth, with the inevitable snagged fish being released. The hot setup was yellow/green yarn, a medium green or yellow corkie and a large red corkie. Alternate retrieves - sometimes slow, sometimes fast. Hang on for that tough chum battle! The fish were in pretty good shape and some nice sized fish were caught. Last day for Hood Canal is Friday, Hoodsport Hatchery Zone I believe is open into December. Check your regs to be sure.
