My friend Jordan and I fished up and down the highway north of the hatchery, and had a grand time. We fished from about 1:30 pm until dark (5:30 pm?) on Saturday the 25th. We each caught one chum, and lost a couple each as well.

We tried spinners and spoons to no success for at least an hour and half before switching over to frozen sardines (they were $2 cheaper than anchovies). On Jordan's first cast with a sardine he caught a very strong chum that inhauled his bait. Jordan didn't use a bobber with his bait either, he casted it out with no weight and would let it slowly sink to the bottom, jerk it back up to the middle of the water column, reel in his slack, let it sink again, and repeat. We ran out of sardines pretty quickly, but some hero of an angler that was leaving gave us a barely used pack of herring so we could fish on! Thank you good sir, your act of kindness and charity really made my day, heck, it made my whole week!

Jordan and I lost about 3 or 4 using the herring, it seemed like the chum were gumming the bait so it was hard to get a good hook-set. At 5:15 a chum grabbed onto my herring under a bobber and started heading to Clallam county with it! By the time I landed it about 15 minutes later (we had no net, and I was using 8 pound test, so if it wanted to make a run I let it run) it was pretty dark out. Great end to a great day... and there's still a ton of fish around.

I caught a different "rotting peice of fleash", but yes fish were relesed obviously (figured that went without saying).
