Took a charter out this weekend for bottom fish we all got our limits of seabass and I got my limit of lingcod. It was a lot of fun despite some disappointments. If you are planning a trip to Westport for some charter bottom fishing do your research. I was very unhappy about several things on our boat. We had no deckhand and had to bait our hooks 50 percent of the time not really a problem if it was just me but it was an issue for the girls there for it was an issue for me. And the fishing rods on board were garbage. The rods were purchased at Walmart and were the cheap ones you would buy a 10 year old. Some of the reels were attached with hose clamps, eyes were either broken or missing and the drags were worn out from the salt as the reels were designed for freshwater. I would normally have asked about these things but I didn't set the trip up. I was invited as a guest and was happy to be fishing with my friends so I didn't let that stuff get to me. But you shouldn't have to pay good money for that. There are good boats out there for the same money. So ask these types of questions before you book your trip.

Typically I would only use my own fishing rod with any type of fishing. If I didn't have one it gave me a good excuse to get one. I know that not everyone is able to do that. The best rule of thumb for going out on a quality fishing trip is come the day before, see their catch, and gear. If you think that the price is unbelievable low especially to other offices remember you get what you pay for.
