Fished with Tom Jacobs and his two daughters. We ran from Shilshole up to the east end of Possession, Green Buoy area. Late start - gear in the water by 9am. 4 lines, stacked riggers. We were targeting pinks and had pink gear out (white flashers and pink squids) except for one silver setup. Our first fish came about 45 minutes into the morning, a lost salmon, probably pink at 65 ft. At 10am my deep line (60 ft) released and I was into a chinook with an attitude! This fish screamed line off like nobody's business. We actually had to turn the boat and follow him. He was well hooked and when we got him to the boat I would guesstimate he was in the 18-20 lb class. A beautiful fish safely released. Soon after we crackered yet another two salmon, probably pinks again. Bad luck following good! We decided to move over to Shipwreck at noon just to see what was happening. When we arrived there were a lot of boats and a few nets in operation. Dropped our gear and immediately we each had fish on - and lost them. Ouch, not a good day for keeping salmon! Called it a day at 1:30pm as the girls started getting restless. As Tom began to bring his last line in, you guessed it - "Fish On". And again, lost at the boat as the fish took a hard run and the hook pulled free. A painful six salmon lost, one caught. Haven't done that in a while. But in any case, the pinks are starting to show in better numbers and by next week there will be plenty more to catch a hopefully less to lose! Thanks Tom for having me on your boat.
