We fished Sekiu from August 20th to 24th. The pinks were biting faster than I've ever experienced. I had three people in my boat and we were limiting in 1-2 hours each day (12 salmon, not including the wild silvers, kings and small pinks we were throwing back)! The fish were everywhere from the 200ft-600ft lines from the surface down to 60 feet. I heard they were even deeper than that, but I didn't try any deeper.
It slowed down on Friday when we noticed an unreal amount of krill in the water everywhere we went. There were also massive bait balls nearly everywhere we went. The salmon were feeding all around us on the surface, but the bite had slowed noticeably. I can only assume there was so much to eat that they were more discriminating (or full!).
We used mainly dodgers with hoochies about 24 inches back. The pinks were running probably 4-8lbs.
It was a great time and definitely worth the trip!
