Hit the water about 6:30AM with my friends Kurt and Tara Hester and my wife. We had three rods out and got our first hit on a cut plug herring with a dodger at about 7:30 in 40 feet of water. Kurt had hooked a blackmouth which did not trip the clip on the downrigger. Our next fish came at about 8:00 AM in 50 feet of water and was a good sized pink. It had more than the usual amount of black in the jaw line and gave me a good couple of runs. In fact it acted like a small chinook which prompted a call to Mike for verification of species. (Make mental note....don't forget your regs!) Kurt hooked into a silver about 45 minutes later and after that everything was dead. We did not see a lot of fish being caught. The water was very calm for the whole morning. We came out of the water around noon and the fish checker said the most that were caught by a boat that day was 4 fish. Where have all the humpies gone? Are they in the rivers already? Weird year. Looking forward to some silver action later.
