Spent the weekend at westport. We crabbed the whole time but only walked away with 2 keeper Dungeness. There was tons of small crab on every pull and a lot of keeper females and a bunch of barley illegal males. We fished the board walk and caught 2 dogfish and had a bunch on. I tried with plastics and got skunked. There was a lot of people salmon fishing and we even saw a school right in front of the harbor resort, but they were mostly jacks. Talked to a deck hand and he said they were starting to run through. We tried for about an hour but got skunked. I have never seen so many herring, right before the sun set they were everywhere. Also the boat basin was full of seals, they ripped quite a few bait boxes out of my pots. We stayed at Ocean Ave Inn and the weather was really good for westport.

gpc - How did you think the crab tasted? Just wondering because we were in Westport a couple weeks ago and stayed at the Harbor Resort. We also crabbed and ended up with 6 keepers in total for the 2 days we were there. I agree there are a lot of females and small males. I thought the crab tasted terrible! Which I didn't think was possible. Almost tasted like straight diesel. LOL Still a great time though.

I just got done eating one. Usually they are great from this area, or at least a lot better than the crab you get from the Seattle area. This one wasn't as tasty though. I mean its still crab lol, but definitely not the westport crab that I am use too

how was the siurf over at the jetty, the cove and the groins? i originally started going out to westport to surf and then in the last couple yrs to fish more than surf and now just fish.. the fishing can be as good as it gets in washington out there, i love it! good report GPC
