Ive been taking my small whitewater kayak on the saltwater. My whole boat is only 8 ft long so using my 7 foot salmon rod is not practical. So armed with my ultra light set up (4'11'' ugly stik) I targeted searun cutties. Once on the water I realized the large chum run was in. I mean tens of thousands of fish must be in and around the inlet and narrows right now. It didn't take me long to give up the cutthroat and target the chums they were jumping everywhere. There was a great tide rip set up and many fish on the surface near it. Using a gold spoon (Pot of Gold from Rainbow Plastics) I cast across the rip. It wasn't long before I had hooked one of those Chums. I was enjoying a great fight before I realized I hadn't re-set the drag for salmon fishing my reel was smokin I tried to tighten it but it was too late snap 100 + ft of 6 lbs line a my spoon was gone. I had been spooled that has never happen to me before. Let me tell you I wont let that happen again any time soon.

May all your lines be tight and the fish all hogs.

Hey Pacific Pride, I notice that you are really bringing in the cutts, silvers, and chums. I'm a little new to the whole salmon world, but interested in learning a few techniques, in the local areas. I have a brand new salmon boat loaded with all the gear rods, riggers, finder, ect. Maybe we could hit it up and fish on my bigger boat. If your interested email me at seanduvall21@yahoo.com really interested in thoes cutties you keep catchin! Check out my salmon from area 10 in the area 10 report. Personal best.

Im located 25 minutes from West Seattle. Yeah I know thoes chums are no good to eat, but it is fun to catch 20 of thoes suckers a day. I went on the Green river wih my son and just pulled in thoes spawned out zombies (catch and release). But my main interest is the Sea run Cutthroat. I just bought a couple of G-loomis for Steelhead, but Im sure they would work for thoes Cutties. Blackouth fishing is crazy right now!!! My co worker went out and caught a numberless amount down off the southern tip of Vashon. Maybe we could hit up sometime.
