This is a LATE report . Fished Friday the 5th-Sunday the 7th from the beach at Lagoon Point. In three days caught two tiny 9" salmon and a sculpin (I think). The first day we got there we asked some locals how the fishing was. They said "it's been a terrible season, only a few caught all season." These were neighbors to the beach house where I was staying and they fish it all the time. They said , "you can see them everywhere, but they're not biting."
And that was the story for three days. Tried buzz bombs, Kastmasters, little cleos in all colors and sizes. The same locals would come and go everyday with different spoons, lures, floats with herring, etc. Not one salmon caught. And salmon where jumping everywhere. You'd be standing at the water's edge, and occasionally one, two, or three would swim by a few feet off shore like they were late for a meeting. Some heading north. Some heading south. None biting. Boaters didn't seem to fare well either. Every morning I'd count between 15-20 boats. In three days I saw four fish caught from boats.
Sorry the report is so late. I also came down with a cold my second day there. I'm just getting back to normal. So my first ever try at salmon was a total bust. But I learned a lot, and the beach and weather was amazing. Can't wait to try again.
