I returned later in the afternoon to see if anything had changed since the early morning run. I was told that only a few small shakers had been caught and the two leaders of the Black Mouth race for the pier title had both caught nothing for the day. The old man I had seen earlier was still there, actually he had returned so it was nice to see familiar faces at the pier again.

My first two casts were on the north side of the pier, fearing that I'd snag the annoying tires I sent to the south side. Joking with the old timer that we have no fish in the sound today I casted. Three quarters of the way in I was hit and hit hard. Line was pulled off my reel and the rod did bend somewhat and the question of seal or salmon started and ended in the same instant as whatever had hit the hook was now freed.

I had two other small hits before the currents changed and the sun set. I went home knowing I'll return again.
