I couldn't pass up a day like today and not try for some winter blackmouth. Launched out of Shilshole Bay around 10:00am and ran across to Jeff Head. I had my father with me who started out with a coyote spoon and I started with a green glow hoochie. My father had released two shakers before I even had a chance to get my gear down. It was literally non-stop for most of the day and between the two of us we easily brought over 40 fish to the boat. We ran through just about everything we had in our tackle boxes to see what they wouldn't take which turned out to be J-Plugs. I drug one of those around for about 30 minutes without a strike, which allowed me to finally grab a bite to eat and drink. Most of the shakers were in the 12" to 16" range and about half of them were marked. I managed to hook into a fish that required a measuring device but came out just over an inch short. That fish took a 4.5" green UV hoochie behind an 11" green hotspot flasher in 70' of water of all places. The fish we hooked into 160' down were just as small as those caught 80' down, they seemed to be everywhere. We picked up around 2:00pm and headed back to the launch after checking the crab traps. Kept 2 red rock crabs of the 4 or 5 legal sized ones that were in the pots, no dungies today! Trolled in front of Shilshole for about 30 minutes and picked up a few more shakers before calling it a day. It was a great day on the water and I realized that I hadn't even taken one picture of the scenery or the wildlife, just a bit too busy getting the gear back in the water!
