Went out for my first cast and retrieve of the New Year and found 6 others doing the same. While they were all aiming for Blackmouth - and I would have too - I decided to change my normal tactics and fish for H20 molecules.

First cast didn't work out as intended as I ended up with salad.
Second cast was a repeat of the first cast.
Third cast resulted in tube worm and more salad.
Fourth cast I caught bottom
(so far a very good 2009 fishing year - no boots, beer bottles, or barnacled rocks on the opening trip)
Fifth cast - a small shaker (the fishing gods smiled on me)
Sixth Cast - a rats nest (then they cursed me)
Seventh Cast - gold - Water molecule on and no need to fight with a net. The water molecule was returned unharmed to the wild where it could be evaporated later and become the next snow flake on my driveway.

Actually it was nice weather and even better being able to get out and enjoy it. Would have been nice to catch something bigger than the hollow tubeworm and would have had more play than the bottom did, but the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of work.

It would have been nice to have seen more shakers or see fish following the lure in so you know you were doing something kind of right at least.
