Well I couldn't resist the temptation to give it a go with the weather forecast calling for calm winds and no precipitation. I launched the boat in Everett around 8:00am and new it was going to be a tough day when I saw how stained the water was. Add to that a good blanket of fog and low 30's temps, I was glad to have my GPS working and my Buddy Heater along for the ride. I thought about heading straight for Possession but decided to give the Racetrack a shot before the tide change. I found that the water was just as stained at Camano Head as it was at the launch! I gave it a go for about an hour without any luck so I packed it up and headed South. Just past the Clinton Ferry dock I marked some good bait and slowed down to check out the situation. Bait and a few fish on the finder = me dropping my gear in the water. So I trolled along Columbia Beach for a while and picked up a nice sized shaker about a half mile South of the ferry terminal right on the bottom in 115' of water. I was consistently marking fish between 60' and 40' while I was trolling and alternated my trolling runs between hugging the bottom and 45' down. For my efforts I was rewarded with another good sized shaker in almost the same location and depth as I my first. Both fish took a green glow hoochie behind an 11" E-chip glow flasher. After a couple hours I had had enough and headed back to the launch. And yes, the water along Columbia Beach seemed just as stained as the hat Island area with about 6" - 12" of visibility. My other offerings went completely untouched; Army Truck Sting King, Green Glow Coyote Spoon and a white glow Silver Horde plug. When I left the launch it was around 1:30pm and at that time only one fish had been recorded. At the launch, I spoke with another fisherman who made the run down to Possession, he mentioned the water down there was much better but still had a milky green tinge. He had one take down but that was it and didn't see anyone else break out a net.
