Ok, fishing partner opted to stay home. I launched at Camano Island State Park and headed across to East Point. I dropped a purple haze flasher and coyote spoon down to 130 feet and did 1 run up to Baby Island. I did not see any bait but did meter a few single fish. I worked back up towards East Point and just inside the point the release broke loose. Initially I thought that had snagged something on the bottom but after a few undulations realized that I had something with fins. 45 minutes later I realized that it did have fins but all the eyes were on one side. Nice butt, an estimated 40-50 pounds released still kick’n (on a 9’ salmon rod he kicked my butt).
I continued trolling the overall area changing presentation here and there from East Point to Baby Island and it was not meant that I was to take home a salmon. I got back to the ramp at about 4:30. The final tally; shakers-5, keepers-0 and 1 released halibut.
