Three stars more for the weather, company and fishing, as opposed to the catching!
Fished out of Sequim on the 16th and 17th for halibut with TomS. We fished hard both days. Got blanked on Saturday and got one 20 pounder on Sunday.
The drive over and back was bad with the Hood Canal bridge out. Long drive in the dark on Friday, but really bad drive with multiple accidents slowing or stopping us on the way home, though it was a sunny, beautiful drive.
The water was very calm on Saturday and very managable on Sunday. Tides were good. We went straight down most of the time and we backed into the drift in the mornings to keep the line angle good. We tried both herring on a spreader and our tried and true jigs with salmon.
On Saturday we fished a couple of spots around Dungeness Bar before going out to Hein Bank. Only two doggies for almost 10 hours of fishing...! We had a guy drift past us and saw him get about a 60 pounder that would have been in our drift a few minutes later, but no other action.
On Sunday we stayed closer in. Saw a lot of boats and the two charter boats working the shoreline slope just out from John Wayne. Our fish came from around Dungeness Bar. We had one other bite a drift or two later, but my main line broke after it had been on for 5-10 seconds, a ways up the line. Not sure what happened there...
