Carl, Vince and I fished Middle Bank on Saturday. We Started fishing in 65 ft of water to get a feel for the drift, hoping to get everyone fishing right by the time we hit 90 ft. At 75 ft, Vince had a huge bite, but with this his first time fishing salt, missed the fish. At 88 ft, Carl hooked up with a 12-15lb Hali. we had several strikes on that run and one fish. On a run in a different part of the bank, Vince had a strike that sent his tip into the water. He set the hook, but nothing. Fish had inhaled the hooks and hoochie and sheared the mono leader. On that same line, I had one of those pole grabbing strikes and FISH ON!!! Pulled him up from the bottom twice but he went back down each time, then, sheared the mono leader. Now everyone is fishing steel leaders. I hate loosing fish and especially feel bad about leaving gear in them. Carl then picked up a 20lbr that really tore him up. Fun to see a fish challenge people. Then around 2pm I got a 15lbr.The Halibut bit all day long, probably 15 strikes, only 3 dogfish. All dogfish hooked more than 200 ft of water. Time to fish Lings. We did'nt find many in my usual spot so we tried a new one. I was rewarded with my new personal best. Exactly 42" 30lbs. What a "bueatiful" fish. All halibut were taken in less than 220 feet of water with bubblegum hoochies and purple label herring on a spreader bar. I'm trying to get a day off this week to make one more trip for Hali's.
