Wednesday evening we set our gear in area 8-1, north end of Camano Island. This morning at 6 am we returned to see what a 10 hour overnight soak accomplished. In 4 pots we handled 29 big keeper males and saw very few females. We harvested 4 limits and released 9 keepers for another day. Only one of the nice keepers out of the 29 had a soft shell and was obviously released. Great crabbing!! Everyone else that I spoke to who left their gear out overnight limited. I believe the risk of pot theft may be slightly reduced in some areas if they are set far enough away from boat launches and beach cabins. I also believe that if you set your gear in the evening right before dark and return in the early morning you are less likely to have your gear stolen or your pots raided. Just my opinion although the threat of theft is everywhere. Anyway, great trip and very nice crab. I will reset our gear this evening for a Friday morning pull. Good luck out there.

Wow Dave! You have got crab dialed in. Just a couple nights ago I picked my way through one measly 6" rock crab. Your cooler looks pretty nice.

Thanks guys. Crabbing seems to be good in 8-1 which is nice for a change. It's usually fished out before the season opens to the public. Did great again this morning with 30 keepers and 6 of us on board. Amazing crabbing. I just posted a report with a few pics. Also some pics in the forum section "crabbing 2009." Cobrar how did you do???
