In-Laws and their friends came up from ID for a little saltwater action. Crab pots went in south side of Hat Island and we had our lines in the water by 0710 just north of Shipwreck. Had 5 pinks in the boat by 0830. Primarily using white 8" flasher and pink coho killer at 85'. Not a single hit on pink hoochies. Fishing slowed to a crawl in the late morning. Had one more in the boat and several misses in early affternoon. 6 pots yeilded 16 keepers which was a nice surprise after not doing well there earlier in the season. All in all the folks from ID had a wonderful time other than one lost hat from standing up while underway, one broke pole from not understanding down riggers and one cell phone to the deep six from shirt pocket when bending over side to wash their hands.... Today (8/20/09) is another story. Made it 3/4 of the way to Hat Island before I called it and went back to Everett launch due to 4'-5' waves and about 15-20mph south wind which made it too miserable for the land lovers on board... There is always tomorrow...

Hey are the humpies just a early morning thing? Haven't heard any reports of an afternoon bite?

i know this past week or so the only 'bite' i've seen is in the am from daylight til around 1030 or so. been fishing in the afternoon also, and sometimes til sunset, just picking up the odd fish here or there. not what i would call a real bite. i'm hoping this will change soon and it's not just me...

The waves made fishing miserable for sure. We stuck it out till about 10:00 when we decided we had had enough. I didn't see a single fish boated and back at the launch one of the fish counters had only counted 7 fish. I am wondering if the commercial netters had anything to do with the decreased number of fish at the Hollow. On the bright side, at least you didn't get any of your crab gear stolen. Fishin the Skagit in the morning. I will let you know how I do. I look forward to tomorrow’s report from you as well.

We also have only picked fish up in the morning. We were a couple of those crazy people that went all the way down to shipwreck this morning. What a nightmare! Caught one fish, don't think the back pain was worth it. Gave it up at 10:00 also.

Hey thanx's guys....that saves me a whole lot of headache fighting that launch if it's been slow in the afternoons. Remember bleed and ice with those pinks.....makes a BIG difference!!
